Kairuki School of Nursing is part of the Kairuki Health and Education Network (KHEN) affiliated to Kairuki university School of Nursing, which is known for its commitment to health education and research. Diploma in Nursing and Midwifery

Admission to Diploma in Nursing and Midwifery

KSN selects students to join the Diploma in Nursing and Midwifery programme in October, over May - September. Students seeking admission must apply immediately when the announcement is made through the NACTVET Central admission system (CAS). Students will be selected based on their O’ level results or equivalent, followed by assessment of their application forms, and academic performance. Successful candidates will immediately be enrolled.

Entry requirements

To be selected for the Diploma in Nursing and Midwifery an applicant must be a holder of Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) with At Least four (4) Passes in non-religious Subjects including Chemistry, Biology and Physics/Engineering Sciences. A Pass in Basic Mathematics and English Language is an Added Advantage

Or must be a holder of Technician Certificate (NTA Level 5) in Nursing and at least a pass in Biology, Chemistry or Physics OR an Average of B+ in Nursing and Midwifery/Public Health Nurse with at least a pass in Biology, Chemistry or Physics and work experience of two (2) years. Necessary attachments: License to Practice and Letter of Permission from Employer

Diploma in Nursing and Midwifery programme

Diploma in Nursing and Midwifery program at Kairuki School of Nursing is comprehensive three-year program duration for pre-service students and two years for in-service students through eLearning and one year for in-service up-grading designed to equip students with the necessary knowledge and skills for a successful nursing career.

Special Regulations under Kairuki School of Nursing

Important requirements to note for students undertaking Diploma in Nursing and Midwifery are:

Expected to attain100% attendance during their clinical rotation, whole class lectures, community placements tutorials and others as may be determined by the school.
Expected to pass Continuous Assessment Test (CAT) in order to be allowed to sit for the Final Examination.
Required to score at least 50% and above in the Final Examination in order to pass the course.

Assessment and academic progression regulations

The assessment and academic progression regulations for the Diploma in Nursing and Midwifery program are designed to maintain high academic standards and ensure that students are well-prepared for their professional roles. The key aspects of these regulations include:

Continuous Assessments:

Continuous assessments will be conducted throughout the semester and will contribute to the final grade. These assessments may include quizzes, assignments, practical evaluations, and participation in class discussions.

End of Semester Examinations:

End of Semester examinations will be held at the end of each semester. These exams will test the comprehensive understanding of the course content covered during the semester.

Grading System:

The grading system follows a percentage scale, with a minimum passing mark set at 50%. Grades will be awarded based on the cumulative performance in both continuous assessments and final examinations.

Academic Progression:

Students must pass all required courses in a given year to progress to the next academic year. Failure to pass a course may result in repeating the course or taking supplementary exams as per the university’s guidelines.

Remedial Measures:

Students who do not meet the required standards in assessments may be provided with remedial measures, including re-registering for the failed course, to help them meet the academic requirements.
